A day on the water with Fishing Hall of Famer Cap’n Ted is more than just catching fish… it is an educational experience about the symbiotic relationship of all creatures great and small on the complex and awesome Mississippi River, one of the greatest natural wonders on planet earth. A duke’s mixture of fish is waiting for you, somewhere between mussels on the bottom, otters on the surface and eagles sailing overhead. Understanding the grand scheme of nature is more intense on a river than on any lake. The mighty Mississippi can be – and often is – the most challenging water you will ever fish. Lessons learned on this amazing fishery will make you a better angler… maybe even a better person… especially if you bring a kid who thinks text messaging without looking at the keypad is the key to world domination.

Cap’n Ted specializes in bass, walleye, northern pike, catfish and panfish, but cautions even the most precise species-specific presentation has the potential for producing virtually anything with fins that calls the majestic Mississippi home. Cap’n Ted has a number of pro-staff affiliations including Lund boats, Yamaha motors, Northland Tackle, Bill Lewis Lures, B-Fish-N Tackle, St. Croix rods, Vibrations Tackle and  Liquid Willow Cat . When not guiding Cap’n Ted communicates the outdoors experience via newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, seminars and four books: Mississippi Musings with the Old Guide , Tails, Trails & Tales with the Old guide (The outdoor reader for folks with indoor plumbing), MORE Tails,Trails & Tales and Flames & Fins.  Books are available on Kindle and Amazon.com .  The latest, Flames & Fins was published March 2023 after the crusty captain recovered from gut surgery which almost sent him to the big adios.                                                                   For truly comprehensive info on the Immortal River from the Twin Cities to the Quad Cities, check out Big River Magazine and Capn’ Ted’s monthly contributions to Driftless Journal.
